Did you know that science consulting is something you can do after you get your PhD? Do you want to learn more about science consulting and what you can do to prepare for this career?
Enter the UTHSCSA Science Consulting Interest Group. Scientific consulting has emerged as an exciting career choice from grad students and postdoctoral fellows. The goal of this trainee-led group is to allow participants to gain exposure to scientific consulting as a potential career and to prepare for job interviews. Programs will be developed that bring in representatives from small and large startup companies and consulting firms to discuss the in’s and out’s of careers in science consulting.
The group intends to host hands-on events to include pro-bono volunteer consulting engagements, informal Q&As with consultants, and Case Competitions. In addition, participants will have an opportunity to gain exposure to various topics including entrepreneurship, technology transfer, commercialization, intellectual property, and product development.
Networking will be a key component of the group meetings. During each event or gathering, time will be devoted for trainees to get to know one another and help each other during the very stressful period of searching for a consulting job. Any networking event that includes a consultant will also include time for participants to connect and secure powerful future allies.
